How to properly size a helmet

• Helmets must fit snug but not painfully tight. A properly fitted helmet will feel snug with fairly even pressure around the sides and top of your head.
• On most new helmets the liner will feel a little extra snug at first but will break in after several hours of wear. This is by design so the helmet will conform to the shape of the wearers head.
• A properly fitted helmet should fit snug enough that it cannot move around on your head without pulling on your skin.
• The chin strap should hold snugly and not allow the helmet to be removed.
• The cheek pads should touch your cheek without pressing uncomfortably.
• There should be no gap between the brow pads and your temples.
• When the chin piece is pressed the face shield should not touch your nose.
• A loose helmet is dangerous. It can shift when you least want it to, blocking your vision; it can be noisy allowing wind to blow in; and worst of all, it may come off in a crash!
• Measure your head:
• Use a flexible tape measure to measure the widest part of your head, generally approximately 1" above the eyes and ears. Slide the tape up and down the area to find the widest point.
• Try it several times to make sure you are getting the largest number.
• Record the measurement and refer to the chart below.
• If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next larger size.
